ACD Club founding member Bob McEwan dies

Dick Greene, of the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Club, has reported that Bob McEwan passed away Friday, October 18, in Hospice at Pocono Mountain Hospital. It was his wish to not have life support.

Bob was a charter member of the Club - reputedly the first to reply to Harry Denhard's ad in Motor Trend magazine – and a longtime Old Cars Weekly reader.

From the CordNet website (www.automaven.com): "Bob McEwan's first Cord in 1952 featured 'improvements' to the Cord's concealed headlights.

"In 1975 Bob commissioned a copy of the very rare 2-passenger Cord coupe. The work was executed by Doug Johnson, using Cords that would not have even been considered as parts cars by most folks. Bob and Stan Murman drove this car across the country on its maiden run.

"Cord owners everywhere owe Bob an enormous debt. As one of the founders of the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Club, he helped nurture it through its early formative years."

Greene said there will be no wake or funeral. His ashes will be spread where his mother and father's ashes had been spread in Packanack Lake NJ.

"Having known Bob and his family for over 55 years, the family has asked me to write the obit for the club and they look forward attending a memorial service for Bob at the Spring Meet," he said.

Any donations in Bob's memory should be made to the ACD Museum.

Green concluded, "I am very sad - an era has passed."
