Worldwide Auctioneers’ Enthusiast Auction offering up over 250 cars in two days
Worldwide counts down to Auburn, Indiana’s biggest spring auction offering with the Enthusiast Auction, April 25-26.
Auburn, Indiana - Worldwide Auctioneers is counting down to its annual spring auction extravaganza at home in Auburn, Indiana, with this year’s event promising to be the most substantial yet. From April 25-26, 250 vehicles will go under the hammer, with over 150 offered at no reserve. The Enthusiast Auction is so named for good reason, with a fascinating and eclectic lineup of consignments curated to suit every conceivable automotive passion, from some of the most exciting European sports and supercars, to fine pre-war and antique automobiles, American muscle, ‘50s classics, celebrity-owned vehicles, trucks, prototypes and a selection of other genuinely one-of-a-kind creations. “Visitors can look forward to the biggest and best spring auction offering in Auburn’s stellar history as a collector car destination,” said John Kruse, Principal and Auctioneer. The catalogue and full inventory can now be viewed online at worldwideauctioneers.com.
Of the sale’s many notable consignments, few are more outrageous than a 1998 Lamborghini Diablo SV Monterey Edition, the very first of a mere twenty Monterey Editions built, with just three owners from new, a coveted prize for collectors and a fantastic snapshot of late 1990s supercar excess. Offered from the renowned Passport Collection are a selection of significant automobiles including a stunning numbers-matching 1967 Ferrari 330 GTC, rare as 1 of just 598 examples produced between 1966 and 1968, documented by Marcel Massini Report, well-maintained and unrestored. The collection also includes an exceptional 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Cabriolet B by Sindelfingen, expertly serviced and accompanied by the original data plate and copy of original kommission paper, and a comprehensively refurbished, numbers-matching 1967 Aston Martin DB6 Vantage with five-speed manual gearbox. Of the 68 diverse automobiles offered from the Passport Collection, many will sell at no reserve, including an iconic 1995 Ferrari F512 M, 1 of just 501 examples produced worldwide, the epitome of a modern-day classic with just 24,600 miles from new.
Auburn has welcomed its fair share of celebrity-owned vehicles over the years and the original Cadillac used in the Oscar-winning movie Driving Miss Daisy starring Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy will be one of the stars at this year’s sale. The legendary 1955 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special ‘Driving Miss Daisy’ Sedan was one of the most iconic cars featured in the film, spacious and fitted with all the modern conveniences of the day, including factory air-conditioning (which Miss Daisy refused to allow her chauffeur Hoke to use, even on an extended drive). Also offered for sale without reserve is a 1981 Elmco 605 Golf Cart, custom-ordered new by screen legend Burt Reynolds, with a fun and sporting Rolls-Royce-like design and an electric motor, the industry's first luxury club car aluminum chassis golf cart. Another genuinely unique vehicle on offer is a 2008 ASVE Arex Super Coupe Roadster, a one-off supercar designed by industrial designer Dave Stollery, who after a famed career on the Broadway stage and as a child TV actor became an outstanding car designer, with General Motors, Toyota and later the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Company. Donated by Mr. Stollery to the Zimmerman Automobile Driving Museum in 2019, this singular vehicle will sell in Auburn without reserve as part of that esteemed museum collection. A crown jewel of the same museum since its opening is a rare and highly collectable 1940 Packard Darrin 180 Victoria Convertible, driven and admired in the exclusive 2004 and 2013 Pasadena Tournament of Roses and seen by millions in the 2020 Emmy-winning Netflix series, "Hollywood.”
Other significant automobiles slated for the Enthusiast Auction include a singular 1935 Packard Twelve Dual Cowl Sport Phaeton, 1 of just 4 examples produced for 1935 and 1 of only 3 known to exist, retaining its original Dietrich body and tags. Muscle car enthusiasts can look forward to a great selection of cars, including an impeccably documented 1971 Plymouth ‘Cuda 440-6, a low production, highly desirable numbers-matching factory Track-Pak example and 1 of only 50 four-speed cars built in 1971. Also crossing the block is an impeccably restored 1958 Chevrolet Impala ‘Tri-Power’ Convertible, long admired for its one-year-only styling and powerful Sculpturamic design. Of the more venerable vehicles lined up for the sale is one of America’s earliest sporty cars, a 1913 American Underslung Tourist, one of fewer than two dozen surviving, "senior" American Underslungs, formerly owned by Harrah's Automobile Collection and William K. Haines, Sr. Aficionados can also look forward to the usual extensive selection of some of the best automobilia and memorabilia to be found. “To say that I am excited about this upcoming auction is an absolute understatement,” said Rod Egan, Principal and Chief Auctioneer. “If you want an American or European pre-war car – we’ve got them. A muscle car, yes, we do; European sports cars, absolutely; ‘80s and ‘90s youngtimers’ cars – sure do; big finned American cars of the Fifties, well, of course. Looking for a RestoMod, no problem, we have those too. If you love collectible cars, we have a car for you here in Auburn.”
