Old Cars We’d Buy That: 1967 Type 2 21-window “Sunroof Deluxe” VW Van

A 1967 VW bus with plenty of windows to take in Mother Nature’s glory… Yeah we’d buy that!

These wacky VW vans really caught on with collectors a few years ago and prices have soared into the clouds. This 79-window edition (actually 21, but we have trouble counting past 8) is up for bids on www.bringatrailer.com and it is a glorious greenhouse on wheels.

It's a 1967 Type 2 21-window "Sunroof Deluxe" rig that was restored in 2015, according to the seller, and now lives in Hawaii.

According to the seller, "Details include white-painted bumpers with overriders, sealed-beam headlights, safari-style windshield panels, a roof rack, a sliding fabric sunroof, hinged rear side windows, and eight skylight windows. The rear bumper is scratched near the right tip."

The radio also doesn't work, but we'll live with that. We won't be able to hear anything when we tip the windshields open and let the fresh air come blasting in anyway.

This thing absolutely rocks, and it's gonna bring crazy money. At press time, it was up to $45,000, and that's not going to be enough to buy it.

We'd love to fly out to Hawaii, drive her onto a boat, and float home with her. Alas, we will have to satisfied admiring her from afar.
