Old Cars We’d Buy That: 1955 DeSoto Firedome station wagon

Station wagons are cool. DeSoto Firedome station wagons are a no-brainer as well. Yeah, we’d buy that!

1955 DeSoto Firedome station wagon to be on the auction block this Labor Day weekend. Worldwide Auctioneers

The Worldwide Auctioneers Auburn Auction set for Labor Day weekend in Auburn, Ind., is overflowing with spectacular machinery. We'd commit acts of despicable desperation to own a bunch of 'em. It's hard to even know where to start.

But this baby absolutely pegged our Cool-Meter! When was the last time you saw a really nice 1955 DeSoto station wagon — and two-tone to boot — up for bids? We can't even remember ever seeing one of these in the flesh, and certainly not one this nice. This would be an absolute home run at almost any Dairy Queen cruise night, or maybe a blue ribbon concours.

There were only 1,803 1955 Firedome station wagons built, and certainly not many are left. This one's loaded with automatic transmission, a driver’s side spotlight, fog lights, wire wheels, a dash-mounted clock and radio, and a roof rack. And she's got a Hemi!
