Take your love of old cars to a smaller scale!
Citroën DS car hauler model
By their nature, gearheads are an inventive group and through the years, they’ve created some pretty trick car haulers. Today, rollbacks used to carry old cars to meets can be seen, and back in the day, race teams for Ferrari, Shelby and Mercedes-Benz created some pretty unique and memorable haulers. This Citroën DS-based rig is among the more memorable.
The French Citroën DS was a front-engine, front-wheel-drive car built from 1955 to 1975 in sedan, station wagon and convertible configurations. The DS was very popular, selling nearly 1.5 million units across its lifespan. As “the” French car, it’s not surprising that Frenchmen put the DS to uses beyond carrying passengers. One gentleman, Pierre Tissier, is known to have converted Citroën sedans into ambulances, vans and automobile transporters, such as the model featured here.
Built by Classic Model Replicars (CMR) in resin, this 1:18 transporter is based on a circa-1970 Citroën. It carries a long flatbed with a diamond-pattern deck that’s perfect for hauling another car model (perhaps a French Bugatti, Delahaye or Delage). Separate ramps are even included to display purposes.
Overall, this Citroën DS model is very well detailed with realistic features from the headlamp lenses to the wheels and tires to the trim bits inside and outside the “cab.” Citroën and car hauler fans will find much to love in the model.
To order the 1:18 model in blue or red for $119.95 plus shipping, go to www.diecasm.com or call 877-DIECASM.

Henry Dominguez’s new book “The Celini of Chrome” by Racemaker Press looks at the career of George Walker, Ford Motor Company’s first full Vice President of Styling and the company’s counterpart to Harley Earl.
Walker’s postwar career at Ford brought the 1949 Lincolns, Mercurys and Fords and went through the glitzy ’50s and glamorous ’60s.

1973-1987 Chevy/GMC Trucks book
“Square body” 1973-1987 Chevrolet and GMC trucks were popular when new and haven’t shaken that affection —if anything, it’s grown.
Given the following that square body GM trucks have, Jim Pickering’s new book “Chevy/GMC Trucks 1973-1987: How to Build and Modify” from publisher CarTech is well-timed.
The heavily illustrated 176-page paperback book contains 400 color photos and charts and follows CarTech’s proven how-to formula using the author’s personal truck as the subject. There are chapters on the truck’s history, then tear down, suspension, brakes and steering, engines, fuel and cooling, transmission, rear axle, lighting and wheels and tires. All have an emphasis on upgrades and popular modifications. Chapter 11 covers body, trim and interior restoration and rebuild, and while these trucks will rust as bad as a Vega anywhere east of Seattle and north of Texas, body rust repair how-to isn’t covered. Instead, the body how-to starts once a truck is made solid again.
Helpful topics for the modifier include four-link rear suspensions, lowering projects, Holley EFI installation and aftermarket transmission choices.
Whether LS-ing, restoring or simply rebuilding a square body, “Chevy/GMC Trucks 1973-1987: How to Build and Modify” is a handy and helpful resource to keep at the ready.

Hurst book
The cars, the equipment and the people of the legendary Hurst brand are featured in this revised and updated edition of “Hurst Equipped: Factory-Special Muscle Cars, Speed Parts & Legendary Race Cars.”
The book covers all the great Hurst muscle cars from the 1960s to the 21st century: Hurst/Olds cars, the Hurst Jeep and AMC products, Hurst MoPars and Hurst Pontiacs from yesterday and the more recent Hurst Challengers, Hurst Ram, 300H and Hurst Mustang. Plus, there’s the Hurst shifter, Hurst wheels and its famous Jaws of Life tool.
The Hurst story is told with 400 photos, mostly color, across 192 pages of the paperback.
If you purchased the original version of this book, it’s worth updating to the revised and updated version that includes the latest Hurst vehicles and updates on some of the rare Hurst vehicles, including the now-restored Fournado 1968 4-4-2 modified by Hurst when new with a front-wheel-drive Tornado drivetrain.
To order this book from publisher CarTech for $39.95 plus shipping, go to www.cartechbooks.com/CT676 or call 800-551-4754.
Scale drag race model kits book
Although focused on drag racing kits, “Collecting Drag Racing Model Kits” by Tim Boyd is every modeler’s delight. The fully illustrated book features hundreds of current and vintage kits that were offered in stock and drag racing forms or solely as drag cars. In this capacity, the book works as a sort of checklist for the model builder and collector, but there’s more.
Each color-illustrated model kit box is accompanied by details citing the kit’s place in collecting, its introductory year, its popularity and notable features of the kit itself. AMT, Revell, Jo-Han, Polar Lights, MPC and others are featured. While nearly every kit mentioned is illustrated with a picture of the box, the kits inside the boxes are pictured in just a few dozen of the book’s 400 images.
Chapters in the book are broken down by drag types: stocks and super stocks; gassers; front-engine rail dragsters; rear-engine rail dragsters; funny cars; pro stocks; altereds and exhibition racers; and “fictitious flyers.”
The 176-page book is the perfect complement to Boyd’s earlier book, “Collecting Muscle Car Model Kits.” To order this paperback book from publisher CarTech for $36.95 plus shipping, go to www.cartechbooks.com/CT671 or call 800-551-4754.

History behind the Automobile Gallery & Event Center
Launched in 2016, The Automobile Gallery occupies a building that was home to Denil Cadillac, a historic and prestigious Green Bay dealership between 1958 and 1997. The once gleaming, state-of-the-art dealership building was briefly used as a municipal storage garage. It then sat empty and abandoned for nearly two decades until William “Red” Lewis, a Green Bay native and innovative entrepreneur, was inspired to convert the deteriorating building into a gallery for automobiles that integrated event and meeting spaces. With his vision in mind, Somerville Architects & Engineers of Green Bay breathed new life into the building, preserving the facade of the dealership while creating a graceful, contemporary gallery and event space.
Many of the automobiles themselves have come from a private collection, but most of them have been donated to The Automobile Gallery, which is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the enjoyment and enrichment of its visitors and the community
An Environment as Impressive as the Automobiles it Surrounds
The Automobile Gallery’s lighting, décor, and arrangement have been designed with an intention to maintain a sharp focus on the automobiles themselves. The space is open and respectful — more Guggenheim than garage – creating a unique viewing space to showcase the rotation of vehicles on display. And while the automobiles are the focal point, the building itself has received critical recognition of its own for its design and appearance.
Since opening, The Automobile Gallery has been awarded the Brown County Historic Preservation Award, The City of Green Bay Mayor’s Beautification Award, the Milwaukee Concours d’Elegance Award of Excellence, and numerous other honorable mentions.
