Volo Museum Fights Car Cabin Fever

It’s a cold, snowy year in the Midwest and if you’re like me you have “Car Cabin Fever.” The Volo Museum (www.volocars.com) is a good cure for this disease that’s prevalent here in the Rust Belt part of the country.

When I first got into this car writing racket, the Volo Museum was a final resting place for old relics and ex-Maharaja cars. Then not too many years ago, the Brothers Gramm who run the place put a Batmobile on display. Guess what happened? Their attendance quadrupled—or something like that.

It seems that when they had only regular old cars to see, only the car guy in the family came to see them. But when they had a Batmobile there, mom and the kids wanted to tag along. In addition to putting more bodies thru the turnstiles, this made the whole museum more exciting year-round.

There are still plenty of genuine antique cars at Volo. One room is devoted to just factory original oldies. The Dick Tracy movie cars, Batmobiles and Lightning McQueens have simply been added to the mix.

So that means the whole family can spend a cold Saturday or Sunday at Volo and have a lot of fun.
