Selling cars and memories… and making friends in the process

When people buy cars, quite often they aren’t just buying a vintage car. Cars of a particular make and model hold fond memories to the buyer. John and Helen Meyer have been selling classic cars and memories for over 15 years. For John and Helen, it wasn’t just selling cars all over the world, but making many friendships while selling a few cars in the process. But now due to health, they have decided to close their dealership and sell the remainder of the collection, tools, fixtures, and more. They will kick off the weekend with a “Grand Closing Celebration” to thank their friends, family, and the town of Warrensburg for their many years in the collector car hobby. They are looking to bidders from around the US and world to join them in owning a part of Happy Days Dream Cars at their auction June 3rd, 2017 at 9:30 a.m.
John Meyer has always loved cars. He remembers walking down dusty, country roads and seeing fabulous cars driving by. He would look at the chrome, listen to the sounds of the engines, and dream of the day that he would have his own car. Well, he got that chance and bought his first car that lead to another and another. Soon he got married to Helen and their honeymoon car was a red 1957 Chevrolet hardtop. They started off their adult life together and have been married for 53 years. They have two children – Phyllis and Ryan—four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
They started a waste management business that grew to 4 states. When the business starting growing it allowed him to buy a few of those cars he admired when he was younger. In 2000, they sold their waste management business and started Happy Days Dream Cars. John and Helen got the chance to deal in classic cars; everything from a 1931 Auburn, to muscle cars, classics and more crossed their paths. For over 15 years they sold cars to hundreds of people worldwide. They have met thousands of people, listened to their memories and have created friendships in the process.
An added blessing to having a public business has been the opportunity to meet people. John and Helen opened their business to pray with and counsel friends and acquaintances as well as holding a men’s bible study for fourteen years on the premises. It has blessed and strengthened many people over the years. Additionally, several new businesses were started as a result of discussions and friendships formed in the Happy Days showroom. The dealership has blessed John and Helen in many different ways.
But due to health concerns for John and Helen, they have decided to sell the remainder of their inventory, tools, shop equipment, and memorabilia at auction, NO RESERVE. VanDerBrink Auctions, LLC will conduct the auction Saturday June 3rd, 2017 at 9:30 in the morning.
