Old Cars Reader Wheels: 1962 Mercury Monterey

Old Cars spotlights a reader’s 1962 Mercury Monterey

Rick Rodriguez has a cool Monterey and an even cooler wife. She bought him the Mercury as birthday present. Rick gave us some insight on his ride…

"My wife brought me the car for my birthday 15 years ago for $3200. The car was sitting in the back yard of the house. It needed lots of work.

The motor was leaking oil and the transmission was also leaking. The upholstery had a lot of rips. The car was painted Sultana White. Chips of paint were coming off the car, but the car was running. I drove it home for 30 miles. The car was intact and original. That's what I wanted, all original and not modified.

It took me 14 years to get all the work done. The car is painted back to its original color from '62, Black Cherry. All the polish and chrome is done."
