Old Cars Reader Wheels: 1960 Studebaker Hawk

Old Cars spotlights an Australian reader’s 1960 Studebaker Hawk.

Ross Oldman loves Studebakers. His wish list was headed by a finned Hawk. Luckily, the Studebaker gods heard his call.

"I have always admired Studebakers, and in particular the coupe and hard top range built between 1953 and 1964.

High on my wish list was a finned Hawk. When this car was advertised with my dream mechanical specification I was very interested.

The car was modified in Texas during the 1970’s. A supercharged R2 engine from a 1963 Super Hawk GT along with a close ratio T10 gearbox.

I purchased the car from a collector in Arizona in 2003 and imported it to Queensland.

I drove the car until 2006 when I pulled the car off the road for a body on bare metal respray ,new interior, air conditioning and mechanical refurbishment. The work was completed a year later.

Since then the Hawk has covered in excess of 30,000 miles and provided our family with a lot of pleasure. We are members of the Studebaker Car Club of Queensland which is a very active club."
