Old Cars Reader Wheels: 1955 Chrysler 300

Old Cars spotlights a reader’s 1955 Chrysler 300 with a background that hits it “out of the park.”

David and Evelyn Broxterman have a "Hall of Fame" of a story behind their impressive '55 Chrysler 300.

"After spotting your call out in Old Cars, I thought someone there might like to see a photo of my 1955 Chrysler 300. This "Brute" has a storied past:

Originally issued to the manager of the New York Yankees, Casey Stengel, as an "MVP Car" in May of 1955, the car was given to Baseball Hall-of-Famer Enos "Country" Slaughter shortly thereafter as part of a deal to entice him to go the newly formed Kansas City Athletics for a year and train the less experienced outfielders. Enos owned and drove the car for 8 years before selling it to a MoPar collector, Leonard Shultis, of Halcottsville, NY in 1963 for $550. Mr. Shultis stored the car in his 3-story barn; on the second floor, until his death in the 1990's. His wife and children decided to finally sell the collection and I bought the car in 2003. In 2012, Moebius Models, Inc. used this car as the prototype to produce their 1/25th scale model kit.

The car was featured in several magazines, over 10 years ago, including American Icons; The Antique Automobile; and Street Thunder. However, it's been up on floor jacks since 2014 and did not seen the light of day for 8 years - until 2 weeks ago.

The car is currently in the hands and shop of Master Mechanic Larry Jacklin of Lakeland, Florida who is carefully bringing life back into this rolling piece of history. He has guaranteed it's presence at the upcoming LAKE MIRROR CLASSIC Concourse Show here in Lakeland, Florida in October.

My family and I are looking forward to getting the Chrysler back on the road. "
