Old Cars Reader Wheels: 1936 Hudson Terraplane Model 61
The story of a longtime love affair with a Terraplane Model 61.
Duane Barry has owned this Terraplane since 1948. Talk about devotion towards a car! Duane tells us the story of his Model 61…
"I bought this Terraplane in 1948 when I was in high school, it was 12 years old and had 12,000 miles on it.
When I went in the Navy in 1952 I parked it on a hill behind the farm. It remained on the hill until 2001, when I brought it to my home for resurrecting. It had been shot many times, all glass broken, mechanical parts stolen and the body parts were scattered all over.
Over the next year I did all the body, mechanical, upholstery, wiring myself. I only farmed out the painting to the friendly Dodge dealer. The only mods made were: 80 amp 6-volt alternator, quartz halogen headlights, electric fuel pump, turn signals and a fuse panel fusing every individual circuit located behind the dummy glove door in front of driver.
It took a little over a year working around 8 hours a day. I drive it every week to restaurants and to church."
