Tupelo Auto Museum features 1960s classics

TUPELO, Miss. -- “Cars of the '60s” will be featured at the Tupelo Automobile Museum Feb. 5-26, 2011. The exhibit will be composed of a variety of makes from the 1960s that will be displayed in addition to the museum’s collection of over 100 cars from the 1880s to present-day.

Curator Allen McDaniel chose to do this type of exhibit because cars of the '60s were the last truly classic collectible American cars. They were cars that still had design changes from year to year.

“The '60s were about experimentation and technological advances,” McDaniel explains. “Cars from the '60s were the first cars to have seatbelts, disk brakes and other safety features. The mid '60s later became known as the Muscle Car Era.”

McDaniel believes that possibly some of the best cars that are recognized as classic collectible cars were cars of the '60s.

The Tupelo Automobile Museum is located off Highway 45 at the Main Street exit in Tupelo, Mississippi.
