’29 Duesenberg, ’38 Talbot-Lago receive top honors at Meadow Brook

Troy, MI – A majestic 1929 Duesenberg Model J Dual Cowl Phaeton and a stunning 1938 Talbot-Lago 150-C Teardrop Coupe were bestowed top honors at the 32nd Concours d’Elegance of America at Meadow Brook event, held this past Sunday, July 25 on the grounds of Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester, Mich.

Owned by John Groendyke of Enid, Okla., the elegant ’29 Duesenberg Model J, resplendent in its rich blue and red, was judged ‘Best in Show American’, while the magnificently restored ’38 Talbot-Lago, stunning in its two-tone silver and shown from the Off Brothers Collection in Richland, Mich., was awarded ‘Best in Show European’.

A 1947 Vincent Series ‘B’ Rapide owned by Bar and Hedy Hodgson of Ashburn, Ontario Canada, received ‘Best in Show Motorcycle’.

Considered one of the world’s most prestigious classic automobile exhibitions, the 2010 Concours d’Elegance of America at Meadow Brook showcased more than 100 years of automotive history, with a field of over 200 cars along with a range of vintage motorcycles on display. Entries hailed from across 25 states as well as Canada for judging in 20 classes, including drag cars, speedsters, space-age sport coupes, celebrity-owned cars and traditional concours cars.

Despite wild weather earlier in the weekend’s event program, conditions cleared for Concours Sunday, with close to 10,000 automotive enthusiasts in attendance.

“We were overly pleased with the weekend’s event. With cars coming from 25 states, the field represented one of our most diverse showings in history, with some of the greatest automobiles ever built on display,” says Larry Moss, Chairman of the Car Selection Committee, Concours d’Elegance of America at Meadow Brook.

“There was truly something for everyone and all elements came together well to make for a great and memorable day with strong attendance,” Moss adds.

A featured attraction at this year’s show and garnering strong interest from onlookers, was a special GM Motorama display, featuring four, one-of-a-kind concept cars from renown Chicago collector, Joe Bortz. The display included the unique 1955 Chevrolet Biscayne which was shown for the first time in its fully-restored glory and presented with the ‘Debut Award’.

Connecting to the event’s local Michigan roots, a 1941 Packard Super Eight One Eighty-Darrin, owned by Malcolm Pray of Greenwich, CT, also joined the winner’s circle, receiving the ‘Spirit of Detroit’ award.
