Web series takes classics out of the garage and out onto the open road

American Detours is a new web series pairing epic American roads with classic collector cars. The recently launched series is a tribute to great rides – beloved classic cars owned by American Collectors’ (producers of the series) policyholders – that deserve to be taken out of the garage and driven on great roads. At the heart of the show are the stories of collectors and how they came to connect with the hobby.

Each video -- airing exclusively online -- also represents a collaboration between American Collectors Insurance and auto enthusiasts across the U.S. who took to social media to vote on and promote their favorite road trip routes. The show underscores the growing popularity of the collector hobby, from classic restoration to the simple joy of exploring a winding road in a beloved classic.

The first episode followed a 1963 1/2 Ford Galaxie (below) as it navigated through the Creole Nature Trail in Southwest Louisiana with co-hosts Jael de Pardo, best known as the host of popular SyFy Channel programming, and Hooniverse’s Executive Editor Jeff Glucker.

Episode 2 features the two cruising in an original ’71 Mustang. The featured ‘71 Grabber Green Mustang is a work-in-progress and proof that classic cars don’t have to be show winners in order to provide a fun driving experience.

In Episode 3 -- airing May 13 -- tune in to experience their trip in a 1968 Shelby Cobra GT 350.

You can go out any weekend and see rows of show cars, but what about the thrill of cruising a collector car down the road and taking in local treasures? That’s the feeling captured in American Detours.
