This weekend will be a busy one for the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners,Mich., beginning Friday with a Movie Night Under the Stars featuring the car lover's classic "American Graffiti." Festivities will continue through Sunday with the 22nd annual Muscle Cars PLUS Car Show and Swap Meet.
The museum is also featuring the final week of the special exhibit “Mid-Century Performance”, with many of the nation’s most coveted hot rods and muscle cars, including the Little Deuce Coupe of Beach Boys fame, a rare 1967 AC Cobra and a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona. The limited engagement exhibit will come to a close Sept. 19.
Steeped in car culture, American Graffiti (1973, Rated PG) is a nostalgic coming-of-age film set on the streets of small-town America and features a diner and gas station reminiscent of the Museum’s very own iconic structures.
Spectators can watch from the lawn across from George & Sally's Blue Moon Diner. Admission for this fundraising event is $10 per carload for the movie.
The Muscle Cars PLUS Car Show and Swap Meet, sponsored by the West Michigan Muscle Car Club, will be open to the public from 9 .am. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. This year’s special featured vehicle classes celebrate the 1962–1973 Chevy Nova and the 1967–1973 Chevy Camaro.
Participants can show their muscle cars or set up in the vendor’s swap meet for $20 each, while the general public will be admitted for $12 — which includes entrance into the full Gilmore Car Museum campus and all exhibits at no extra charge.
