Rare Steve McQueen Collection on display this month only
Steve McQueen’s 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 will be on exhibition with his treasured Jaguar XKSS and 1912 Indian Motorcycle from now until early August at the Petersen Automotive Museum.
LOS ANGELES – Steve McQueen, the aptly named “King of Cool,” owned many sports cars and motorcycles in his lifetime. For the first time, three of his most beloved vehicles are on public display together for a limited engagement.
McQueen’s 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 will be on exhibition with his treasured Jaguar XKSS and 1912 Indian Motorcycle from now until early August at the Petersen Automotive Museum. Then the Ferrari moves to Monterey, to be sold by RM Auctions, where it is expected to set a new benchmark price for the rare V12-powered GT car.
McQueen fans and car enthusiasts who aren’t able to see the exhibit in person can see exclusive new content and – in a Petersen exclusive – hear firsthand from the car’s current owner, former F1 driver Vern Schuppan, at the new Petersen-powered website CarStories.com. Exclusive content includes images of the museum’s McQueen exhibit, detail photos, a feature on the car’s history plus a riveting Podcast with Schuppan.
In addition to being a McQueen fan, Schuppan was the first Australian to win Le Mans (in 1983) and has driven everything from the legendary Porsche 959 and 956 to race cars in Formula One, Indy and V-8 Supercar series.
This special McQueen “pop-up exhibit” includes all three vehicles as well as historical documents about the cars and the actor. Museum-goers can also see the McQueen’s 1934 Ford Panel Delivery on the way into the museum, then take a trip to the Petersen’s vault to see McQueen’s “low profile” daily driver, a 1952 mint green Hudson Wasp.
