Movie cars featured at National Auto Museum
“Movie Cars: Cinematic Stars on Wheels” is showcased in a new exhibit at the National Automobile Museum.
Monthly Movie Nights, featuring many of the cars in the exhibit, will continue through November 19th.
Five cars from the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles join eight National Automobile Museum Cinematic Stars on Wheels for the special exhibit. Some of the most famous movie car stars in the exhibit from the Petersen Automotive Museum include:
· The 1966 “Mongrel T” Custom Roadster by George Barris and used in the 1967 Elvis Presley film “Easy Come Easy Go.”
· The 1946 Ford “Grease Lightning” hot rod was used in the movie “Grease,” starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.
· The 1998 VW Beetle “Shagmobile” was in the Mike Myers film, “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.”
· The 2002 Jaguar XKR featured in “Die Another Day” starring Pierce Brosnan and Halle Berry.
· The sassy pink Honda S2000 seen in “2 Fast 2 Furious,” starring Eva Mendez, Paul Walker and “Ludacris.”
Cars from the National Automobile Museum include:
· The 1912 Rambler that was in the film “Titanic,” starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio.
· The Museum’s 1910 Sterns was used as a pattern for a car built for “Titanic.”
· The 1960 Flying Caduceus which had a cameo role in “The World’s Fastest Indian” starring Anthony Hopkins.
· The 1938 Phantom Corsair featured in the 1938 film “The Young In Heart” featuring Janet Gaynor and Douglas Fairbanks.
· The 1892 Philion featured in both the 1942 film, the “Magnificent Ambersons” starring Joseph Cotton and Agnes Moorhead and the 1951 film “Excuse My Dust” featuring Red Skelton.
· The 1949 Mercury seen in the 1955 film, “Rebel Without a Cause” starring James Dean.
· A 1948 Tucker as seen in the 1988 film “Tucker The Man & His Dream” starring Jeff Bridges
The National Automobile Museum is open Mon. – Sat. from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Sun. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Museum admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $4 for children 6 to 18 years. Movie Night Films
Thursday Movie Night screenings start at 7 p.m. in the National Automobile Museum Theatre. The West Wind El Rancho Drive-In, Sparks, NV will have concessions to sell movie-style food such as popcorn, candy, hot dogs and soft drinks at each National Automobile Museum movie night. Following are the remaining shows on the schedule:
September 24 – “Die Another Day” with Pierce Brosnan and Halle Berry.
October 29 –“Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me” starring Mike Myers.
November 19 – Enjoy “The World’s Fastest Indian” starring Anthony Hopkins.
Special movie night pricing is $10 for both entrance to the Museum and the featured film. Movie nights begin at 5:30 p.m. to provide plenty of time to enjoy the Museum and the special Movie Cars exhibit before the film starts at 7 p.m.
