Little cars and big excitement at the Savoy with ‘Microcar Marvels’ exhibit
The Savoy Automobile Museum in Cartersville, GA opened its newest exhibit, Microcar Marvels which will run through February 26, 2023.
CARTERSVILLE, GEORGIA - On November 1, 2022, Savoy Automobile Museum in Cartersville, GA opened its newest exhibit, Microcar Marvels. The term "microcar" is reserved for the smallest of cars. They became popular in the UK after WWII as the demand for motorcycles grew. Microcars often had relaxed requirements for registration and licensing. They are small, fuel-efficient cars with three or four wheels that maintain a cubic centimeter (CC) engine displacement under 400. Microcars are typically confined to the years between 1945 - 1965. These curious vehicles are on loan from Lane Motor Museum in Nashville, TN through February 26, 2023.

- 1964 Scootacar MKII
Then on November 18, in conjunction with the Microcar Marvels exhibit, Savoy Automobile Museum announces An Evening with Lane Motor Museum, a special program featuring Derek Moore, curator of collections for the museum. The Lane is home to the largest European collection in the U.S. and features a collection of 550 unique cars and motorcycles.
From 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm in the Savoy Café, interact with Derek Moore, museum directors, and car enthusiasts. The reception offers a full cash bar and hors d’oeuvres.
At 7:00 pm, an interactive discussion with Derek will begin in the Presentation Theatre, highlighting The Lane collection and the cars on loan for the Microcar Marvels exhibit. For ticket information, please visit savoymuseum.org.
About the Speaker
Derek E. Moore is the Curator of Collections at the Lane Motor Museum in Nashville, Tennessee. He previously worked at The Henry Ford, the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum, and the National Corvette Museum focusing his work on the curation and conservation of vehicles and transportation artifacts. His passion in history is the technological progress in transportation and how it has impacted the development of the automobile. He is also passionate about the preservation of unrestored vehicles and the historical information collected by their study. Derek holds a degree in History from Eastern Michigan University, with a minor focused on the History of Technology. His personal collection of vehicles primarily focuses on the pre-WWII era.
