The Big Thursday Tom Mack Auction, held April 4 at the Cabarrus Event Center in Concord, N.C., lived up to its name with big deals.

This was a new venue for this popular event held close to the Charlotte Speedway's Hornets Nest Autofair. Unseasonable weather depressed the turnout somewhat, but the attendees were a spirited bunch, for when the national anthem could not be sung as planned, the crowd on its own started singing it.

Many high-quality collector vehicles changed hands at bargain prices. A fully restored 1936 Ford Deluxe Phaeton hammered for $38,000, a very nicely done 1947 Ford Panel Delivery emblazoned with "Coca Cola" found a new owner at $27,000, a newer blue oval, a pristine 1959 Ford Sunliner was bid to $38,000 and called sold.

1955 Chevrolet (Early Series) Pickup truck went home for $20,000.

Representing the bowtie contingent, a super nice 1955 Chevrolet, stove bolt powered pickup truck garnered $20,000.

A listing of cars sold, first run on the block is below. Premiums are not factored in the price, nor are post-auction sales, which are unavailable at this time. (A full listing, report and more photos will appear in a future issue of Old Cars Weekly.)

This 1959 Ford Convertible from the John & Mary Ann McDaniel collection was called "sold" at $38,000.
