Calling all drivers to Minnesota: Antique car run is Aug. 10

Cars lined up in their assigned spots bright and early prior to the starting gun last year. Assigned spots allow the oldest and slowest cars to leave first.

Antique cars from around the country are going to Minnesota to tour. The 27th annual New London to New Brighton Antique Car Run is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, from New London’s Peace Lutheran Church parking lot.

The Run will feature 55–60 veteran cars from 1908 or earlier and any 2-cylinder vehicles through 1915.

The NLNB is considered by many to be the premiere old car tour in the country. This year will be no exception. Spectators will see many unique and rare cars, many that you’d only expect to see in museums.

There will be two Model K Fords making the 120+ mile tour this year. Only about 25 Model Ks are known to exist. Most of them are in museums today. Two past participants will make the trip with their big 6-cylinder Fords: Rob Heyen of Milford, Neb., and Timothy Kelly of New Canaan, Conn.

There also will be two Franklins on the route from New London to New Brighton. Those will come from Mike Grunewald in McHenry, Ill., and Dean Dorholt from Maple Plain, Minn.

The tour is an endurance run, not a race. It is designed to demonstrate the beauty and endurance of antique cars and educate the public about them.
