SEMA IS NOT CEMA & KEN-DO ATTITUDE

When I got home from SEMA I had an e-mail from Ken Quade, a member of a British car club I belong to. I apologized to Ken for answering him late and I told him I had been at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Later, we talked on the phone and Ken asked what I was doing at a construction show? His question puzzled me, until he explained that the Construction Equipment Manufacturer's Association was behind the CEMA Show he was talking about. Of course, in the car world, SEMA stands for Specialty Equipment Market Association (in case you were wondering). SEMA is a business-to-business event for people in the hot rod, racing and restoration industries.

Speaking of Ken Quade, besides being a true MG lover and a heck of a mechanic, he has an oustanding attitude (I call it his "Ken-Do" attitude) about this old-car hobby. A few weeks ago, he went out of his way to swing by Iola and help me fix a problem with another friend's MGB that had me stymied. Ken found the problem in a few minutes and had it fixed in no time. Later, my friend sent a nice check to Ken for his help. When he called following SEMA, Ken told me that he didn't expect anything for what he had done. "Do you think that Kevin (the MGB owner) will mind if I use his check to buy our club some new tools?" said Ken. That kind of help-your-friends approach is really what this hobby is all about.
