Last week I got a new toy called the Uni-Dolly. Before you go thinking I bought a plastic blow up lady, take a look at the Website (www.uni-dolly.com) -or at least the accompanying photo.
I had seen the Uni-Dolly at The SEMA Show for a couple of years. It was very similar to a device that my friend Marvin Richer, of Crystal Lake, Ill., had in his shop. Marv’s car roll around device is something he found in France and it is a very heavy-duty unit. The Uni-Dolly is very much like it and it’s readily available here in the United States.
We used our Uni-Dolly to help remove a car body from the frame. We jacked up the body on the Uni-Dolly. We put the wheels and tires (with no brakes) back on the frame. Luckily the rear axle was still in place.
Then, we supported the front of the frame with a transmission jack and very carefully pushed the frame backwards and out from under the car. We had to use a floor jack at one point to lift the frame horns over the rear Uni-Dolly unit. In the future, we plan to get an option that will permit pulling the dollies farther out so they sit wide enough to clear frame horns.
Bottom line: We got the job done and we feel the Uni-Dolly was well worth the money.
