I have to admit that I don't spend much time on the computer once I get home each night. Instead, I read magazines and books, and with the holiday season approaching, a number of excellent books are being released. One of those is "Lost Hot Rods" from CarTech. Below is my review, which will also appear in Old Cars Weekly:

Ever wonder what happened to the El Capitola, the “American Graffiti” 1958 Impala or the Rod & Custom Dream Truck? Want to experience your own “barn find” hot rod or custom under layers of dust? The answers and more are buried in “Lost Hot Rods: Remarkable Stories of How They Were Found” by Pat Ganahl.

The pure thought of coming upon a forgotten treasure keeps die-hard hobbyists up at night, and this book will add to the insomnia by keeping readers awake as they page through the stories of discovery. Ganahl breaks down the chapters in a novel way: dedicated tales of discovery, retrieval of old rods and customs from the brink of destruction, period-built rods and customs that remain the subject of searches, the enthusiasts who make searching for old rods and customs more than a hobby and even cars that became famous, then disappeared into their builders’ respective garages where they remain to this day. There are tips to making your own discoveries, and also Ganahl’s personal experience finding old hot rods and customs around his neighborhood.

Any enthusiast of rods and customs built before the mid-1960s will enjoy the subject cars and the paths to their discovery, all told in conjunction with period and modern photos, when available. Call CarTech to discovery the fun and lessons of “Lost Hot Rods” for $29.95 plus $6.95 S&H.
