Fall Jefferson to debut restored 1966 Shelby Mustang
before longtime owner, original owner and salesman
Wayne Rose rode to school in his brother's 1966 Shelby Mustang until two years later, in 1974, when he bought it himself. Wayne then tore the Shelby apart to repaint it, but never finished. Almost 40 years later, the restored car will be unveiled at Madison Classics' 2013 Fall Jefferson Car Show and Auto Swap Meet at noon on Sept. 27 before Rose, as well as the car's original owner, the Alphon Ford salesman who originally sold the Shelby, and the dealership's detail technician at the time.
By the time Rose took the Shelby to TLC Restorations in Milton, Wis., it was in need of a complete redo. After Rose took the car apart to paint it back in 1974, the car was left in pieces outside, near a barn, where countless people doubtlessly stopped to drool over what could be. Fortunately, Rose had saved all the Shelby's original parts, and when TLC Restorations took over, these original pieces could be returned to the car in its restoration.
After the debut of the Shelby's restoration, Wayne and Laurie Rose will finally get to shift the four-speed behind the 306-hp 289 V-8 for the first time since the 1970s.
To witness the reunion, and then do some parts shopping of your own, be at Fall Jefferson this Sept. 27-29 at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Jefferson, Wis. The event features Fords this year, but all types of vehicles are welcome at the event. Call 608-244-8416 for details or use a hot link above for added details.
