I heard some talk on TV today about reinstituting the 55 mph speed limit to save gas.
The last time they did that, I didn't like it. But I was younger then and drove a bit faster. And I didn't own an old MG TF with a top speed of 55 mph or so.
Lately, every time I drive, I see someone trying to get around me or, worse yet, drive right over the top of me. In most cases, the people behind me are going 70 mph in a 55 mph zone. But they don't care. All young drivers must think you're SUPPOSED to drive 10 mph over the speed limit. If the police ever decided to enforce actual speed limits, there wouldn't be a municipality in the entire country with a budget crisis.
I know. I know. I sound like a crank old man. And I don't really want a 55 mph limit. I just needed an excuse to give my lecture and let those young drivers know we really can't go as fast as they want us to when we're driving our antique cars.
Now, if you want to hear my lecture on modern drivers not "dipping" their high beams to oncoming traffic, stay tuned. That one really has nothing to do with antique cars!
